Ladies and gentlemen, Mrs and Mr Devgan:
Kajol and Ajay Devgan are a famously reclusive couple, so their visit to Delhi for the premiere of their film U, Me Aur Hum was an opportunity for fans to interact with them. But the real cool interaction was between the couple themselves.
Ajay: I wanted to make a simple commercial film with no pseudo intellectual meaning. It’s just a movie where you will get your tickets’ worth and go back home. It’s a romantic film about three couples – one who is unhappily married, another who is happily unmarried, and Kajol and I, who fall in love and then face a lot of difficulties, yet stay together.
I couldn’t think of anyone but her who would fit the bill. Kajol is a very fine actress and I’m sure everyone will agree. When I have her, why would I want anyone else to do the role?
Kajol: Ajay took me by surprise quite a few times. We couldn’t take the salsa classes or practice together and I was so scared that we would really mess it up. When we went for the shoot, he did a perfect salsa step. I was completely taken aback, so much so that I stumbled! He is a wonderful director and husband. On the sets, we were very professional and for me he was just my director. Off the sets is a different thing.
Not insane yet :
Sumeet Raghavan, famous for his role in the laugh riot Sarabhai vs Sarabhai , is also making his debut with this movie. Talking about his experience, he said, “Sarabhai was just something else. The fact that I haven’t gone insane yet is stupendous! As for the movie, it is very close to my heart and extremely special to me. It’s a very real character that I play.â€
Half of Divya:
Divya Dutta looked half of herself, having lost tons of weight, and drew a lot of attention for it. Dressed in a skirt and top, she could have easily have been taken for a college girl. When we asked her about it, Ajay answered on her behalf, “When we did the first half of the movie, she was 10 kgs bigger and now I could mistake her for a schoolgirl!â€
