I am emotionally attached to Ajay: Rohit
Published by ajay devgan October 20th, 2008 in NewsDirector Rohit Shetty has come a long way. After debuting with the Ajay Devgan starrer Zameen in 2003. Not only has he delivered hits like Golmaal as a director but he has also borne losses with films like Raju Chacha. Rohit set his foot in the industry when he was 16 years and has now completed 18 years in the industry.
Though his association with Ajay Devgan has been known for long, Rohit reveals his feelings about Ajay for the first time. He says, “Ajay is like an elder brother for me. I am emotionally attached to him. He had supported me and it was because of him that I could find producers for my debut movie. We’ve faced a lot of ups and downs in life together including the Rs 9 crore loss that we had with Raju Chacha. Also, his dad and my father were good friends.”
The director wants to direct a comedy with Rajnikanth and Ajay Devgan together. “I want to make a full-on action flick that is also hilarious, with Rajnikanth and Ajay Devgan or Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar, that’ll cater to the Tamil audience as well as the Bollywood audience. Also, since Rajnikanth has a fan following in Japan… we could release it there too.”
Rohit is so fascinated by Rajnikanth movies that he has made Ajay Devgan do a similar shot in his next venture, Golmaal Returns. Talking about the budget of the shooting sequence of the song Tha Karke in the movie, which is supposed to be the most expensive song shooting sequence in Bollywood, Rohit says, “The song was shot with a budget of Rs 3.5 crore and the budget of this movie is around Rs 34-35 crore.”
Though Rohit has been approached by Balaji Films to direct a sequel to Kya Kool Hai Hum, he is not too sure if he’ll direct it. He says, “Kya Kool Hai Hum was a vulgar comedy and I don’t want to get into that genre. I am yet to read the final script of the sequel that Balaji Films wants me to direct. If I’m not okay with the script, I’ll let Ekta (Kapoor) know. She’s a friend so she’ll understand. If not this film then I’ll direct some other film for Balaji.”
