Producer drags Ajay Devgan to court over copyright issue

MUMBAI: Actor Ajay Devgan has been dragged to court over his movie, All the Best, which is expected to hit the screens next

Film producer Karan Ramsay has moved the Bombay high court claiming a copyright over the film’s script. Ramsay has asked the court to stop the release of All The Best as he has not been able to assess the damage caused yet.

Advocate Sandeep Marne, representing Devgan, will now file a reply and the court will hear the matter on October 12. All the Best stars Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan and Bipasha Basu.

Ramsay, represented by law firm Thakore Jariwala & Associaties, said the script of All the Best is very similar to that of Uncle Samjha Karo which is being produced by his Om Film Company. Ramsay stated that he bought copyright of Uncle Samjha Karo from scriptwriter Paritosh Painter in 2006, who then sold the same script to Devgan Films, thus infringing on Ramsay’s copyright.

Ramsay said when Painter tried to retrieve copyrights of the script in 2007, in the arbitration proceedings that followed, the Indian Motion Pictures and Producers’ Association ruled that it was Ramsay who owned the copyright.
