A few months ago, we broke the news of DHOOM and DHOOM 2 director Sanjay Gadhvi starting a film for Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd. [GOLMAAL, BHAGAM BHAAG, MR. FRAUD]. Well, the latest buzz in film circles is that Gadhvi has roped in Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan for the film, which is budgeted at Rs. 75 crores.

“Not true at all,� Denis Selarka of Ashtavinayak denies the development. So what’s the truth? “The truth is that we’ve approached Akshay for this film and we’re still in talks with him currently. But nothing is finalized yet.

That the producers of GOLMAAL, Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd., are planning to start GOLMAAL 2 is known to all and sundry. But here’s the latest on the sequel…

GOLMAAL 2 will be directed by the same director [Rohit Shetty] and feature the same four actors [Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi] in principal roles. But unlike GOLMAAL, which featured only one leading lady [Rimi Sen], GOLMAAL 2 will feature as many as five heroines.

GOLMAAL 2 will be scripted by Rumi Jaffrey, who has penned many comedies in the past [Neeraj Vora had penned the script of GOLMAAL]. “We have okayed the script,� Denis Selarka of Ashtavinayak reveals. Shooting of GOLMAAL 2 will begin in January 2007 and “we plan to release the film in July 2007, on the same date as GOLMAAL, hopefully,� Denis adds.

France announced it was conferring its highest civilian honour, the Legion d’Honneur, on Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan on the day the actor celebrated his 64th birthday.

Bachchan will be presented the award by France’s ambassador to India, Dominique Girard, at a ceremony in New Delhi, a French embassy spokesman said.

The actor has been given the award for his “contribution to Indian and international culture,” he added.

K Sera Sera will be producing Rajkumar Santoshi’s mythological film Ramayan, which is reportedly being made on a budget of Rs 900 million (Rs 90 crore). The film will star Ajay Devgan and Kajol as Ram and Sita respectively. The couple will be coming together on screen after Raju Chacha, which was released in 2000.

K Sera Sera managing director Parag Sanghvi says, “We liked the setup of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ramayan and wished to be a part of this enormous project. Santoshi has budgeted the film around Rs 900 million and we have joined hands to produce the film, which will also have some special effects. The rest of the casting is in progress. The film will be launched in two months’ time.”

Filmmaker Prakash Jha’s next film after Apaharan will be Rajneeti, which is based on the ironies of the political system in India.

According to sources close to the development, the movie will star Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar and Shahid Kapur and will be shot in Jamshedpur and the US.
